Intentional Vocabulary Learning Using
Digital Flashcards

The research set out to examines whether and how digital
flashcard can be incorporated into a university course to promote the
vocabulary learning of English Foreign Language. This research was conducted at
a public university of Taiwan, where the students learn English as Foreign
Language. All the participants (N=75) were drawn from three intact classes of
first-year English majors, averaging 25 students per class. The study was
designed by varying task designs of flashcard use. The findings underscores the
value of learning vocabulary with digital flashcards as an alternative to move
conventional resources, and draw attention to the relative merits of embedding
digital flashcards in collaborative learning tasks in classroom setting.

BalasHapusYes it did. It showed in Spiri (2008) as the previous study. In the research Spiri compared the effects learning with word lists and cards among EFL learner. Spiri (2008) adopted free online flashcard tool, WordChamp, in a comparison study of Japanese university students drilling with digital flashcards versus printed word lists. As expected, the students who studied vocabulary on WordChamp outperformed those who studied with the word lists while both of the learning techniques assisted the students in acquiring vocabulary.
